Matthew Stubberfield
Matt Stubberfield is an accomplished Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer with over 20 years’ leadership experience spanning global non-profits and major UK corporates. A Chartered Accountant with an MSc in Sustainability and Responsibility from Ashridge–Hult Business School, he combines strategic financial expertise with a strong commitment to climate action and organisational purpose.
As CFO of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), Matt lead finance, grants, HR, and operations across five international offices. He built a high-performing global team, introduced new systems to strengthen governance, and helped double income and headcount, driven by an eightfold rise in philanthropic climate funding.
Previously, as CEO and COO of Renewable World, Matt guided the organisation through a major transformation—stabilising finances, tripling income, and expanding renewable energy programmes across East Africa and South Asia.
Earlier roles at large UK corporates saw him establish internal audit and risk management functions that enhanced accountability and performance.
A passionate conservationist based in Sussex, Matt leads community tree-planting initiatives and champions purposeful, sustainable leadership in the climate and energy sectors.
