Laura Pickering

Senior Analyst, Renewable Energy Zones
Australian Energy Regulator

Laura Pickering is a Senior Analyst in the Australian Energy Regulator’s Renewable Energy Zones team, with a background in renewable energy engineering. She works on regulatory frameworks that support Australia’s energy transition — particularly Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) and the transmission assets required to connect new generation and storage at scale. Laura brings an Australian regulator’s perspective on scaling battery deployment while delivering efficient outcomes for consumers —supporting effective competition where feasible, allocating risk to those best placed to manage it, and keeping incentives aligned with long-term value. Her recent work includes the Waratah Super Battery in NSW (850 MW) and major REZ infrastructure projects such as the Hunter Transmission Project, the Central-West Orana Main Project and the System Strength Project.
